Anti-Hero
“Anti-Hero” is a song by American singer/songwriter Taylor Swift. The song was released in 2022 and was produced by both Swift and Jack Antonoff, and released to the public by Republic Records. “Anti-Hero” falls into the pop-rock genre of music. This song specifically describes Swift’s trouble dealing with depression, self-hate, and anxiety. Swift has stated that her inspiration for this song stemmed from her nightmares as well as her issues with overcoming failure and depersonalization. “Anti-Hero” is the lead song on Swift’s tenth studio album, Midnights, and was also dubbed the best song on the album by Billboard. Some fans and critics also claim this to be the best song Swift has ever created. “Anti-Hero” was able to break both the US and global records for opening day streams on Spotify for a song. This was Swift’s ninth chart topper in the Billboard Hot 100, and stayed there for many consecutive weeks in both the United Kingdom and United States. Swift disclosed to fans that “Anti-Hero” is her favorite song on her Midnights album, and adores the honesty and rawness that come from her lyrics.
Smells Like Teen Spirit
“Smells Like Teen Spirit” was recorded by Nirvana and released in 1991 as part of their breakthrough Nevermind album.  It is credited with ushering in the mainstream acceptance of the grunge rock genre.  It was their biggest hit around the world, topping charts in several countries.  It also received great critical acclaim and is considered one of the greatest songs of all time.  The accompanying video is also considered a breakthrough for grunge music, featuring a high school pep rally that ends in chaos.  It received heavy airplay on MTV, further increasing its popularity. Initially, the song wasn’t considered a potential mainstream hit by the record company, but due to heavy play by modern and college radio stations, it started attracting popular attention.

The lyrics to the song are difficult to understand, but are often interpreted as an anthem to teen rebellion.  Kurt Cobain said the song was about his friends.  Over its later years, Nirvana became uncomfortable with the success of the song and often didn’t include it in concert set lists.  Rolling Stone has listed it as the #5 song on its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list and it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2017.
