The infamous "slap" occurred during the 2022 Academy Awards, which was hosted by Chris Rock. When Rock made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith stood up, walked on stage and slapped Rock while making a comment. Rock didn't hit back and addressed the incident in his Netflix stand-up show a year later.

He created and executive produced the semi-autobiographical show "Everybody Hates Chris," which aired for four seasons. He also produced and directed several films, including "Head of State," "I Think I Love My Wife," and "Top Five." In 2022, Rock hosted the Oscar awards which included the infamous slap by Will Smith after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
