Fan Votes The fans are the other half of the DWTS equation. Viewers can vote for their favorite couples during the live voting window, with online and SMS voting available. Fans can support contestants who connect with them, entertain them, or simply have their favorite personality—even when their judges' scores aren't at the top of the leaderboard. The result can make eliminations unpredictable and gives the audience a direct role in the competition.
Judges' Scores The judges bring the technical side of Dancing with the Stars to the competition. Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli evaluate everything from timing and technique to performance quality, giving each couple a score after their routine. Their numbers can reward polished performances and highlight areas where contestants need to improve. But a high score doesn't always guarantee safety when the audience gets a say, making the judges' leaderboard only part of the equation.
