Freaky Friday (2003)
The 2003 film Freaky Friday is a mainstream fantasy-comedy that introduced the classic body-swap theme to a new audience with humor and poise. Walt Disney Pictures released it on August 6, 2003, and it was a box office success right out of the gate, with over $160 million in worldwide box office returns from a budget of about $26 million.

Mark Waters' film is based on the strained relationship between an overbearing mother and her rebellious teen daughter. When, following a fight at dinner at a Chinese restaurant, they inexplicably switch bodies through magic, however, they are forced to literally become each other, leading to crazy misadventures and eventually more compassion and respect for each other's worlds.

The movie boasts a dynamic pair: Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tess Coleman, the uptight psychotherapist mother, and Lindsay Lohan as Anna Coleman, her wannabe rock 'n' roller daughter. They were both praised for their performances, with Curtis receiving even a Golden Globe Award nomination for her comedic interpretation of an adolescent trapped in an adult's body. The supporting cast featured Mark Harmon as Ryan, Tess's fiancé, and Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Anna's crush. The combination of acid-tongued dialogue, slapstick comedy, and touching scenes made the movie a staple of family favorites.
