Guns N' RosesGuns N’ Roses is a hard rock American band formed in 1985 with members Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff Mckagan and Steven Adler. They were an instant success with their first album Appetite for Destruction, released in 1987 during the heyday of the “hair band” era . It reached #1 a year after its release including the #1 single “Sweet Child o’ Mine”, along with top 10 hits “Paradise City” and “Welcome to the Jungle”. With sales of 30 million worldwide and 18 million in the US, it is the number one selling debut album.
Their follow up release, G N’ R Lies, reached #2, featuring the hit song “Patience”. In 1991, they ambitiously recorded and released two albums simultaneously, Use Your Illusion I and II, to great commercial reception. They immediately landed on the #1 and #2 album spots on the Billboard charts and have combined worldwide sales of 35 million. They embarked on a huge tour in support of the albums from 1991-1993. The Spaghetti Incident was released in 1993 and was the last album to feature Slash and McKagan.
The subsequent years saw several attempts to continue the band, to little success, with a rotating cast of band members over the years. Chinese Democracy was finally released in 2008 after 10 years of work; it’s the most expensive rock album in history with a cost of $14 million. While it received initial commercial success, critics panned it. A reunited band, including Slash and McKagan, toured from 2016-2019, eventually becoming the third highest grossing concert tour with ticket sales over $584 million.

Pink FloydPink Floyd formed in 1965 in London with founding members Roger Waters, Syd Barrett, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. Many consider Pink Floyd the greatest progressive rock band of all time. They had some success with their initial albums, and were joined by David Gilmour in 1967. Syd Barrett suffered from severe mental illness and famously left the band in 1968.
Their concept albums in the 1970’s and 1980’s brought them international superstar status, mostly devised by Roger Waters who was the primary lyricist for these records. The Dark Side of the Moon was released in 1973 and is one of the most successful albums of all time, as the number 3 worldwide album. It peaked at #2 on the British charts and spent 364 weeks on the charts. Their follow-up Wish You Were Here was released in 1975 and includes the title track and “Shine on You Crazy Diamond”, a tribute to Syd Barrett. In 1977, they released Animals with the iconic flying pig on the album cover, supported by their first large stadium tour.

The album was turned into a movie, featuring Bob Geldof in the leading role of Pink. They’ve sold over 250 million records, making them one of the best selling bands of all time.
