Joe BidenJoe Biden is a lifelong politician. He served is Vice President under Barak Obama from 2009-2017. He is currently the 46th President of the United States. Previously, he was a Democratic Senator from 1973 – 2009. He was born in Scranton, PA and moved to Delaware with his family eventually graduating from The University of Delaware and subsequently Syracuse University law school. While serving as Senator, he sponsored several significant bills including the Violence Against Women Act. He also oversaw several continuous Supreme Court nominations, including Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas. As a long member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he served as it’s chairperson for 5 years. He worked well with Republicans and sometimes went opposed to members of his own Democrat party. He became well known for his foreign policy, having met with over 150 leaders from 60 different countries. He was successfully elected as President with his running mate, Kamala Harris, the first women and person of color elected to that office. While in office, he signed into law the American Rescue Plan Act to help aid the COVID pandemic and ensuing recession. He also signed bills related to infrastructure and reducing inflation, as well as appointing Kentaji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. His personal life has been marked by tragedy. A few weeks after getting elected Senator in 1972, his wife and one year old daughter were killed in a car accident. He met and married his second wife, Jill, in 1975. Their son Beau, who served in the Army, died of cancer in 2015.
Donald TrumpDonald Trump was the 45th President of the United States, but is also well known as a businessman and TV personality. His career started when he graduated from the Wharton School of Business and became president of his father’s real estate company. Trump expanded the family business to include buying and renovating skyscrapers, primarily in New York City, casinos and golf courses. He had many side ventures, primarily by licensing his name to products such as steaks, cologne and bottled water. Throughout his business career, he has had many ups and downs, including 6 bankruptcies and involvement in countless lawsuits and federal/state legal actions. His has written several bestselling books on his business success. He also appeared on several seasons of the successful TV show, The Apprentice. He is most well known for being the U.S. President from 2017-2021. His presidency was characterized by much polarization with vocal supporters and non-supporters. During his presidency, he was impeached twice and he was acquitted in both trials. Trump remains active in politics and provided over 200 endorsements since he left office.
