Keanu ReevesKeanu Reeves is an American actor who was born in 1964 in Lebanon, but grew up in Canada. His acting career began in the mid-1980’s in TV and small film roles. His initial recognition was in the film River’s Edge in 1986, but had a breakthrough in the 1989 movie Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure; a sequel was released in 2022. Following his initial succdess, he had a series of successful roles in films like Speed, Point Break, and The Devil’s Advocate. His launched into international fame with his role as Neo in the blockbuster film The Matrix in 1999. It was a huge success and a breakthrough sci-fi movie. He starred in 3 subsequent sequels to the movie. More recently, he starred in the John Wick series of films, with John Wick 4 being released in 2023 to much box office success. The movie follows the story of a hitman seeking revenge for his wife’s death and has been praised for its emotional depth and intensity.
In addition to his acting career, he is a musician in the band Dogstar and has collaborated with other musical artists. He’s also known for his charity work in support of cancer research and other worthy causes. Reeves has also been praised for his personal side, known to be humble and down to earth, despite his fame. His openness about mental heath issues has endeared him to fans around the world.
Day-LewisSir Daniel Day-Lewis is an award winning actor, best known for his film roles. Born in London in 1957, he has won numerous awards and nominations. LIke many actors, he began his career on the stages of London, and relied on the “method acting” technique of complete focus and intent on the character. His film career began in earnest in the 1980’s, including roles in movies such as The Bounty, My Beautiful Laundrette, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being. In 1989, he starred in My Left Foot, earning him an Academy Award and British Academy Film Award for Best Actor. His portrayal of a disabled man who can only use his left foot was hailed as a masterful achievement.
He retired from acting for several years in 1997, after starring in The Boxer. In 2000, he picked up his career again starring in Gangs of New York, directed by Martin Scorcese and co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio. His role as the evil gang leader William “Bill The Butcher” Cutting earned him multiple award nominations. He picked up his second Academy Award for his portrayal of an oil baron in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood. This was followed by his starring role in Lincoln, directed by Steven Speilberg, for which he earned his third Academy Award for best actor. He is the only actor to have won 3 awards in that category. He has also won 2 Golden Globe awards, 3 Screen Actors Guild awards and 4 British Film Academy awards. He became a “sir” in 2014 after receiving knighthood for his service to drama.
