Few superstars require red carpets and stages as gaudily as Zendaya and Lady Gaga, yet their paths to stardom could not be more divergent. Zendaya is the very picture of cool — a Disney starlet who became an Emmy-winning actress and global fashion phenomenon. Unobtrusive confidence, wise role choices, and a fashion sense that hints more than it shouts sophistication mark her depth. Lady Gaga, on the other hand, lives off spectacle and shock. Meat dresses to billboard-charting anthems, she's made money off endless reinvention, distorting pop culture to her aesthetic. One is an embodiment of modern sophistication, the other a master of transmogrification. The question then: who determines what being a 21st-century star looks like?
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga was born in New York under the name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in 1986.  She is one of the biggest pop stars and actresses in the world.  She is known as an innovator in both music and fashion.  She started her music career at an early age, performing piano at open mic nights as a teenager. She went on to study at the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at New York University before dropping out to pursue her music career.

Her first album, "The Fame," was released in 2008 and included hit songs "Just Dance" and "Poker Face." It was a huge success around the world and quickly established her as a major artist.   The following albums  "Born This Way" and "ARTPOP" were also big successes both critically and commercially.

Lady Gaga is also known for her unique fashion sense and over-the-top live performances. Her elaborate costumes and over-the-top, unique stage shows make her a fan favorite.   She has used her celebrity to focus on social causes, such as  inclusivity and acceptance, and has received several awards for her work.  She has also developed an acting career in films such as “A Star Is Born” and the upcoming Joker film.  She won an Academy Award for Best Song for “A Star is Born” and was nominated for Best Actress..  Her success and unique story has been an inspiration for girls and women around the world.
Zendaya
Zendaya is an American actress, model, and fashion icon who navigated successfully from being a Disney Channel star to one of the most renowned and sought-after Hollywood actresses. She was born in Oakland, California, initially as a child dancer and model before becoming a teen star on the Disney Channel sitcom "Shake It Up" (2010–2013). Her journey thereafter proceeded to her own series, "K.C. Undercover", where she was also a co-producer.

Her movie breakthrough came with her role as MJ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Spider-Man" trilogy starting with "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017), which catapulted her to global stardom. She also debuted her singing and acting skills in the box office smash movie "The Greatest Showman" the same year. However, her raw and life-altering performance as Rue Bennett in the HBO drama series "Euphoria" earned her critical acclaim across the board. For this role, she became the youngest Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series winner in history, a distinction she holds twice.

Zendaya has solidified her A-listing with a string of star-studded roles in recent years. She appeared as Chani in the critically acclaimed sci-fi series "Dune" (2021) and "Dune: Part Two" (2024), where her character was fleshed out. She also starred as a retired tennis star in the romantic sports drama film "Challengers" (2024), a box office blockbuster and for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. She was awarded the Critics Choice Award for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her work on the final season of "Euphoria" in 2026. A style icon, Zendaya has also made a name as a red carpet trendsetter, frequently pairing up with her stylist Law Roach to make fashion history.
