Mickey Rourke
Mickey Rourke is an American actor, writer, and former professional boxer. His acting career began in the early 1980s with a string of critically successful performances in "Diner", "Rumble Fish", "The Pope of Greenwich Village", and "Barfly". He became familiar to the mainstream and was sex symbol material for his role in the 1986 erotic drama "9½ Weeks".

In 1991, Rourke retired from acting briefly to pursue a career as a professional boxer. He had, but brief, success in the ring and won eight fights without losing any of them. The sport turned out to be very physically demanding, and he endured a string of injuries that necessitated reconstructive surgery, which greatly altered the structure of his face.

He resumed acting in 1994, taking supporting roles in movies for the rest of the decade. His career was given a major boost by his portrayal of the brutal and scarred Marv in the 2005 film "Sin City", which earned him several lesser-known awards. His comeback was cemented by his lead role in the 2008 drama "The Wrestler", which he won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA award for Best Actor and an Academy Award nomination for.

Since "The Wrestler", Rourke has appeared in a chain of films, often as a supporting character, such as "Iron Man 2" (2010), "Immortals" (2011), and "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" (2014). He also stepped back into the ring for an exhibition bout in 2014, a fight that would come under scrutiny later.

Rourke has had a consistent flow of work in several films over the past few years, often in independent or direct-to-video movies. Some of his recent releases are appearances in "Adverse" (2020), "Man of God" (2021), "Warhunt" (2022), and "Not Another Church Movie" (2024). Rourke has also appeared in music videos, video games, and commercials. He has often credited his dogs for being there for him through difficult periods, and he is well-known to be an animal lover.
