Chili PeppersThe Red Hot Chili Peppers formed in 1983 in Los Angeles, CA. The current members are Anthony Kides (vocals), Flea (bass), Chad Smith (drummer) and John Frusciante (guitar). They are widely considered the most successful alt-rock band, with the most #1 singles at 14 and most top 10 songs at 25. Their music incorporates several rock genres including alternative, funk, punk and psychedelic.
Their first big commercial success came with the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik released in 1991. It features the song “Give It Away”, which is one of their most successful and well known songs and won a Grammy in 1992. It was a #1 single on the charts along with “Under The Bridge” which reached #2. The album sold over 12 million units and reached #3 on the charts. In 1993, the band was joined by Dave Navarro on guitar and released the single “Soul To Squeeze” which reached #1. Following their next album and tour, Navarro left the band following allegations of drug use during band practice. In 1999, they released Californication which sold over 16 million copies. It features three #1 singles: “Scar Tissue”, “Otherside” and “Californication”.
In 2002, they released By The Way supported by an 18 month world tour. In 2004, they set a record with ticket sales of over $171 million for a three night stand in Hyde Park, making it the #1 tour of that year. The band continues to be active with new album releases and extensive tours. They’ve won 6 Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The WhoThe Who was founded in London in 1964 with members Roger Daltry (lead singer), Pete Townsend (guitarist and singer), John Entwhistle (bass) and Keith Moon (drums). They are major rock innovators and have influenced countless bands across rock genres. Their innovations include using synthesizers and large PA systems, along with the influential playing styles of Entwhistle, Moon and Townsend.
Their first single “I Can’t Explain” reached the UK top ten, followed by several other hits, including “Substitute” and “My Generation”. They gained notoriety for smashing their guitars and drums at the end of many shows. In 1967, the single “I Can See For Miles” resulted in their only top 10 US single. In 1969 they released what is considered the first rock opera, Tommy, including the famous single “Pinball Wizard”. In 1971 they released Who’s Next, considered by many as their best album, with such famous songs as “Baba O’Reilly”, “We Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Behind Blue Eyes”. They followed this with a film adaptation of Tommy and the release of the Who Are You album, highlighted by the popular song “Who Are You?”.
Keith Moon died shortly after this release due to drug overdose, leaving behind a legacy of whimsical antics and a frenetic drumming style. The band was determined to carry on, and they returned to the stage in 1979 with drummer Kenny Jones replacing Moon. Later that year, the film adaptation of their concept album Quadrophenia was released. In December at a concert in Cincinnati, a crowd rush resulted in the death of 11 people. They continued to release albums and tour, and had several minor hits such as “You Better You Bet” and “Eminence Front”.
