Space Invaders
Space Invaders is a classic arcade game released in 1978.  It is considered the first fixed shooter game and set the template for future games of the genre.  The goal of the game is to defeat waves of invading aliens with the horizontal moving laser cannon.  It was a huge success, generating $3.8 billion in sales by 1982.  It is considered the highest grossing video game of all time.  The game is cited as being highly influential in helping take the video game industry from a novelty to a global industry.

When the Atari home video system was released in 1980, it was the first huge success on the platform.  The alien from the game is pixelated and has become a pop culture icon, often used to symbolize the video game industry.  In the game, the aliens appear in 5 rows and shift left to right and downward, speeding up as the game progresses.  The player’s goal is to kill all the aliens before they reach the bottom, shooting them with the laser cannon.  The player is protected by bunkers, which the aliens shoot at. The player loses a life if the aliens reach the bottom or the laser cannon is hit by an alien missile.
Super Smash Bros.
Super Smash Bros. is a Nintendo published crossover game featuring many characters from other Nintendo games.  A fighting game, it was originally released in 1999 and features 4 releases through 2018, with no plans for future releases.  The original game featured 12 playable characters with additional characters added in each subsequent release.  Characters are included from such franchises as Super Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Yoshi, Kirby, Star Fox, and Pokémon, as well as third-party franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter, and Final Fantasy.

The game has been critically acclaimed for its multiplayer features, which created a large competitive community and inclusion in some tournaments.  The gameplay consists of players attempting to get their opponent off the stage and out of bounds (like Sumo wrestling), rather than deplete their health.  Controls are also very much simplified compared to other fighting games.  Players can choose their battle items before a match, including bats, swords, throwing items, shooting items, while recovery items allow players to reduce their damage percentages. It’s the best selling fighting game of all time, with total sales of over 27 million copies through 2021.  Despite its popularity, there are no plans for future releases after 2018’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
