The AvengersThe Avengers are the superheroes who exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) based on the Marvel comics. The Marvel comics were originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the early 1960’s. The Avengers team was formed by Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D. The initial concept was formed during the closing credits of the first Iron Man movie released in 2008. The first film in the series, The Avengers, was released in 2012, followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and concluded with Avengers: Endgame released in 2019. The franchise is the 6th highest grossing of all time. Future planned releases include: Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
The Avengers team consists of many superheroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and a few other minor characters. Each of the characters has been featured in their own series of films, all inter-related to the MCU. All the Avengers films received mostly positive critical reviews, and strong box-office success with a total estimated gross of almost $8 billion. The first few films in the series focus on a series of conflicts both externally and within The Avengers team. The last two films revolve around their battle with Thanos who is trying to gather all of the Infinity stones in order to eliminate half the population in the Universe and ultimately ends with the disbanding of The Avengers team.
Justice LeagueJustice League is a team of superheroes as part of the DC comics and films. The characters typically operate independently, but form together when needed to defeat villains and threats. They have appeared in a wide variety of comic books, animated TV series and major motion pictures. The first appearance on-screen was Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice in which Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman appear together, along with cameos by The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. IN 2017, Justice League was released, directed by Zach Synder. The film features an all-star cast including Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, and J. K. Simmons. The film earned an estimated $675 million worldwide, which was a disappointment and generated an estimated $60 million loss for Warner films. It’s considered a box-office bomb and received mixed critic’s reviews.
The film’s plot revolves around the villain Steppenwolf and his quest to retrieve the three Mother’s Boxes, which will allow him to destroy earth and reform it in the image of his lost homeland. The key characters include Batman, Lois Lane, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. The film was directed by Zach Synder, who was replaced by Josh Wheedon in post-production so Synder could deal with the death of his daughter. It won one award, Golden Schmoes Awards for Biggest Disappointment. In 2021, Synder released a director’s cut at a cost of more than $70 million. It was released on HBO Max, but not in theaters, and the studio considers the original theatrical release the “official” version of the film.
