HanksTom Hanks is one of the most popular and recognizable film stars worldwide. He was born in 1956 in California. His films have grossed over $9.9 billion worldwide, which ranks him as the 4th highest earning actor. His big break came in 1980 when he was chosen to star in the TV sitcom Bosom Buddies.. His breakthrough film role was in the 1984 hit Splash, directed by Ron Howard and co-starring Darryl Hannah. In 1988, Hanks starred in Big, which established him as a major film star and earned him his first Academy Award nomination. He had a series of big hits in the 1990’s with films such as A League of Their Own and Philadelphia, which earned him his first Oscar for Best Actor.
Forrest Gump was released in 1994 and earned over $600 million worldwide and garnered Hanks his second Academy Award for Best Actor. He made his directorial debut in 1996 with the film That Thing You Do!, a minor hit. He teamed with Steven Speilberg, starring in the 1998 movie Saving Private Ryan, which earned him another nomination for Best Actor. After a few other hits, his next major role was in Cast Away, earning him both Golden Globe and Oscar nominations.
In the 2000’s, his major films included The Terminal, Charlie Wilson’s War, The Davinci Code, which grossed $750 Million, Toy Story and more.
