World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) originally released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. It was based on the Warcraft series of console games. It was an instant huge success and quickly became the most popular MMORPG of all time.  It peaked at 12 million subscribers in 2010 and has grossed over $9 billion in revenue

The gameplay allows the player to create an avatar and explore the open game world and complete quests, as well as interact with NPCs (Non Player Characters) and other players. The game can be played solo or in teams to complete quests and engage in PVP (Player vs Player) combat. The goal is to progress your character and build up capabilities by earning experience points. Completing quests will reward players with experience points, items and in-game currency.  Group quests often take place in dungeons, whereby the team can defeat enemies and achieve goals.  Players can also buy and sell items using in-game currency

Games are played via servers, known as “realms” and can be played in Normal or RP (Role Play) mode. World of Warcraft requires a monthly paid subscription as well as parental controls, which enables setting of time limits.
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto (also known as GTA) is a hugely popular franchise put out by Rockstar Games.  The gameplay is an open world with the goal for the player of completing missions plus side activities.  The game is known for driving and shooting, along with some role-play activities. The game locations are fictional, but based on real world cities.  The goal of the game is to progress through the criminal underworld and is famous and controversial for its adult themes and violence.

The Guinness Book of World Records cites it as the most controversial game ever, with over 4,000 published articles about it.   Several famous actors have voiced characters in the games such as Ray Liotta, Dennis Hopper, Samuel L. Jackson, James Woods and Debbie Harry.  The original game was released in 1997 and as of 2020, there have been 7 titles in the series.  GTA III, released in 2001 was considered a breakthrough, bringing a 3D and immersive setting.  The game is considered one of the best and highest selling video game franchises ever.  In addition to the main games, there have been a number of additional spin-off games and expansion packs, and some versions have been ported to mobile devices.
